¢ BRUNO/SCUP
³Comments From the studio musician,
Andreas Stenhager:
¹
I was told that this guy had quit the
'scene' and that his songs all are
very old. The reason why I should
review him anyway was that he was the
most respected and 'ripped'(?) guy of
all, when he was active.
I recieved a LOT of tunes from this
guy, and I can't put my finger on one
thing that says that his tunes are
older than others, still active. If
something sounded old, it was the
samples. They were sampled at bad
rates, but they fullfill their aims
very good.
Okay, about the tunes: they are all
very good. He has interesting ideas
that makes me understand what a
respected guy he was. He has a good
sense of melody, even if they tend to
be too improvised sometimes, but that
is maybe to give the tune more
'jam'-feeling. If I listen to other
tunes from other guys, that were made
at the same time, I can see that his
tunes are much more funkier, complex
and generally interesting than others.
He has good drumsamples, which are
programmed to fit the tunes. His
solos are very funky, and when he puts
a bass to them, they are even more
fancy. In some tunes he should have
chosen other leads, but in B.S.T,
¶Listen and Free From Guitar he shows
good skills handling 'real' samples
sampled from various jazz/funk
records. Maybe, maybe, he tends to
slip away from the issue sometimes,
and as I said about Audiomonster
before, the chords and bass don't
follow the tune as whole. You must
never forget the basic idea when you
make songs like Bruno; you can't
change gradually, you must change
clearly or not at all!
A very skilled guy that uses the
medium very wise, but I don't think
that he is more talented than many of
the others!
³Diesel's comments:
¹Bruno was a pioneer in Amigamusic. He
IS early amigamusic, and has all
rights to be. He was funky and groovy
before Nuke was born. But it was a
looong time ago(feels like ages) and
that actually sounds nowadays. The
samples are ooold and the complexity
shines with its absence. The
reviewers in Raw #5 stated Bruno as
the best musician, but he isn't
anymore. Far from that! But it IS
fun to listen!
